WorldbuildingREGULATIONS FOR THE PHAROS DISTRICT
Section I: Mandatory Attire
Visitors shall wear bleached linen of a standard weight. No dyes, pigments, or embroidery are permitted within the inner sanctum of the Alexandria Complex. All metallic adornments, including rings and amulets, must be surrendered at the Outer Gate to prevent interference with the magnetic resonance stabilizers. Failure to comply with dress codes will result in immediate denial of entry. Those who enter in non-compliant garments do so at the risk of static discharge (a consequence of the district's atmospheric ion-harvesting).
Section II: The Great Library and the Automata Scribes
Silence is the primary currency of the Archive. Visitors are permitted to observe the Clockwork Scribes from the designated marble walkways. Do not step upon the brass gear-tracks; doing so disrupts the synchronization of the cataloging arrays.
Interaction with a Scribe is strictly limited to the submission of request tablets. Tablets must be inscribed in Attic Greek using the approved graphite stylus. Do not attempt to speak to the Scribes. Do not touch the brass plating or the articulated joints of the units. Any attempt to introduce external lubricants or mechanical tools to the Scribes is classified as industrial sabotage and is punishable by permanent exile.
Section III: Prohibition of Unauthorized Inquiry
Curiosity is a supervised activity. Visitors are encouraged to admire the architectural symmetry and the efficiency of the pneumatic archives. However, the act of Unauthorized Inquiry is strictly forbidden.
Unauthorized Inquiry is defined as any question concerning the following: the specific calibration of the Chronos-Lenses, the provenance of the vacuum-sealed scrolls, or the perceived discrepancy between the solar calendar and the Archive's internal clock. Questions regarding the 'lost' centuries or the nature of the Archon's biological longevity are considered cognitive breaches.
Personnel are authorized to terminate the visit of any individual who persists in questioning the causal logic of the Complex. In cases of severe intellectual transgression, neurological recalibration will be administered at the visitor's expense.
Section IV: Spatial Orientation and the Pharos Beam
Visitors must not stare directly into the Pharos Beam. The light is not merely for navigation; it is a focused stream of data-transmission. Prolonged exposure may cause temporary blindness or the involuntary implantation of archival fragments into the short-term memory. Should you experience a sudden knowledge of 4th-century irrigation techniques or the blueprints for a steam-driven loom, please report to the nearest medical kiosk for a memory purge.
