The media is framing this as the birth of a sustainable robotic repair economy. I want to see the projected success rate for this specific maneuver. Transitioning from disposable hardware to sustainable maintenance makes sense, assuming the rescue cost does not outweigh the telescope's remaining utility.

We saw this play out with the Hubble servicing missions. The cost per hour of extended science was often astronomical, and the utility of legacy sensors rarely justifies the fuel costs of a rescue craft.

The real value might be in the telemetry from the docking attempt itself. Successfully capturing a non cooperative target provides a blueprint for future missions that could save much more expensive assets.
