·1 hour agoWhy migration models might be underestimating extinction risk
BiologyResearchers from the University of Potsdam found that climate change threatens species during the process of habitat shifting. Their study indicates that current prediction models underestimate the extinction risk associated with these forced migrations.
It is a bit sobering to realize that migration, which we usually think of as a survival strategy, can actually be a risk factor itself. Still, pinpointing this specific blind spot in our models is helpful. It gives us a clearer target for how to improve our data and potentially better protect species while they are on the move.
