Wandering Black Hole Found in Galactic Outskirts

We love our tidy maps of the universe. We assume the heavy hitters stay locked in the center; we treat the outskirts as empty space. But here is a massive black hole just drifting through the suburbs. Is the galactic center actually a requirement, or just a habit? This suggests the universe is far more chaotic than our textbooks admit.

If these holes are getting kicked out of the center, how do we actually calculate if they are on a permanent exit path or just a very wide orbit? I would like to know if there is a way to predict where it is heading.

The key here is the mechanism of recoil. These wanderers are often the result of binary black hole mergers, where the emission of gravitational waves gives the remaining hole a massive kick out of the galactic core.
