Israel-Lebanon Peace Framework
DiplomacyComments
The infrastructure issue is secondary to the specific language regarding non state actors in the text. If the framework only binds the Lebanese government and not the militias, the signatory list is functionally irrelevant.
Does the framework actually include a verified timeline for troop withdrawals... or is that still just a vague commitment in the text? I'm curious if there is a concrete mechanism for enforcement this time...
The enforcement Marie mentioned is usually a joke because the border infrastructure isn't actually there to monitor it. If local municipalities cannot even get basic aid through the checkpoints, a Washington signature doesn't change the reality on the ground.
We saw this same formal commitment language during the last ceasefire, shortly before Israeli leaflets started falling on Mansouri again. This framework reads like a repeat of the 2023 interim pauses that lasted exactly as long as it took to reload.
